How to Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Poconos

Dec 29, 2017

It’s time to close out 2017! The holidays are almost over, the champagne is stocked and the resolutions are in the making. It’s a time to make a fresh start and getaway – whether its solo, with your sweetie or on a family vacay. Celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Poconos.

If you’re looking for a New Year’s celebration away from the crowds of Times Square, the Poconos is a great place to visit. Count down to 2018 at one of these magical New Year’s Eve events at Western Pennsylvania’s most scenic destinations.

Sky’s the Limit

Spend your vacay relaxing amidst the fragrant pines and classic winter scenery at Skytop Lodge, a luxurious resort in the heart of the Poconos. The lodge features upscale guest rooms, suites and guest cottages, with access to onsite fitness classes, cross-country skiing, a toboggan run and an indoor pool. On New Year’s Eve, guests can enjoy the lodge’s signature tea & cookies at 4 p.m., followed by a marshmallow roast by the campfire. Entertainment begins at 9 p.m. with the Doug Smith Orchestra. Look to the skies afterwards as the darkness bursts with colorful fireworks. The event concludes with the Grand March and a midnight balloon drop. Guests can also usher in the New Year with a late (or is it early?) buffet in the Windsor Dining Room. Most of the festivities are free to attend; midnight buffet is $45 for adults and $22.50 for kids 5-12.

A Cold Winter’s Night

Not everyone wants to be inside on New Year’s Eve. Fernwood Winter Fun Center at Fernwood Golf Course in East Stroudsburg opens for snow tubing at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 31. Tube down a snow-covered hill, your hair whipping in the cool nighttime breeze. It’s a great bonding activity for the whole family, and a thrilling vacation starter (or ender) you won’t forget. Live entertainment starts at 9 p.m., with a holiday fireworks display afterwards. Admission is $45 per person and includes a $10 barbecue voucher and unlimited tubing.

Rock In the New Year

If you’ve never seen Led Zeppelin live (or even if you have), you’re in for a treat! Pennsylvania-based rock band Get the Led Out is dedicated to performing the famous group’s mega hits, from “Dazed and Confused” to “Whole Lotta Love” and “Stairway to Heaven.” The best part is that GTLO doesn’t use any of the usual kitschy tribute band gimmicks. No bad wigs, no fake British accents. There will also be an acoustic set with guest singer Diana DeSantis. The group performs three sets at Penn’s Peak on New Year’s Eve, with advance tickets starting at $45. Attendees can also opt for the VIP package, which includes early admission, an hors d’oeuvres hour with open bar, sound check, band Q&A session and more for an extra 60 bucks. Concert begins at 9 p.m. Click here for tickets (21+ only).

With 5,500 acres of forested wilderness, Skytop Lodge is the perfect home-away-from-home when you want to get away from the city and relax. Be one of the first guests to help usher in the resort’s 90th birthday in 2018 and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities, gourmet meals, spa treatments and more with us.
