Sep 21, 2021

The Poconos have long been an escape for couples who are looking to enjoy a romantic atmosphere amidst a breathtaking natural backdrop. At Skytop Lodge, we are proud of the fact that we offer luxurious amenities and private, peaceful escapes for couples to enjoy. However, we also know that many of our couples are looking to experience the entire region while they are staying with us.

With that in mind, we have created a guide to the best wineries in the Poconos. Here are a few that we know you will love:

Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery

Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery is a locally-owned vineyard that is run by a growing family with young children, giving this vineyard a unique appeal for couples who have walked through that stage of life. It is located in Saylorsburg, which is about 45 minutes away from the Skytop Lodge.

This vineyard specializes in hand-crafted small batch wines, which means that the flavors are unique, distinct and bold. While some wineries focus on a specific variety, this vineyard literally has it all. From elegant drys to sweet, refreshing vintages, you will be able to find the red or white glass of wine that you have been craving. After you decide on the wine you want to try, you can enjoy it in a quiet country atmosphere. The views at this winery are incredible, and worth the drive in and of itself.

Another winery that has become famous for its too-good-to-be-true mountain views is Mountain View Vineyard, which is located about 40 minutes away from Skytop Lodge in Hawley. This vineyard is open daily, making it one of the most convenient wineries to visit in the Poconos. It has an extensive wine list, including white wines, blush wines, red wines and dessert wines.

When you arrive, you will want to quickly grab your flight of wine and head to the massive stone patio, where you can take a seat and indulge in the never-ending views of the Poconos that surround you. While this winery is certainly relaxing and enjoyable to visit, it also has a more lively atmosphere. Couples who visit will find that there’s almost always a food truck on-site, allowing them to grab a delicious meal to enjoy along with their wine. There is usually live music scheduled throughout the week, which adds to the ambiance of the experience.

Big Creek Vineyard

Big Creek Vineyard is another Poconos winery that has earned a reputation for being one of the best in the region. Located in Kunkletown, you will find that it takes about 55 minutes to drive here from Skytop Lodge. While it may take you nearly an hour to drive, you will be rewarded with a relaxing and private experience upon your arrival. Many guests enjoy sipping their wine in the outdoor garden area, where picnic tables are situated nearby the vineyards.

This vineyard sets itself apart from others in the region because nearly all of their wines are crafted using grapes that were grown on the vineyard. There are a few exceptions in which grapes are flown in from the Lake Erie region, but predominantly, their wines are created with estate-grown grapes. The dry reds and dry whites are particularly flavorful.

Situated in the heart of Cherry Valley, Eagles Rest Cellars is another idyllic vineyard in the Poconos. You can reach it in about 30 minutes if you are driving from Skytop Lodge, and you will be delighted to find that this cozy winery offers year-round experiences. If you are at the winery when it gets a little chilly, you can still enjoy the magnificent views. There are fire pits available, and guests are encouraged to bring their own blanket to cuddle with as they sip wine.

The owners of this winery grow four distinct northern grapes, allowing them to create specialized varieties of wine that are not necessarily found at other wineries in the region. They are known for their dry blush wines and their sweet white varieties. If you happen to visit this winery on Saturday or Sunday, you can embark on a free vineyard tour in order to see the grapes growing for yourself.

Antler Ridge Winery is one of the largest wineries in the Poconos, and it has four locations where you can visit to enjoy their wines. Its tasting room in Bradford County offers those views of the Poconos that you are likely looking for out of your wine tasting experience, all amid a relaxing atmosphere. Visitors love sipping a glass of wine while snacking on cheese on the outdoor deck. Located just 50 minutes away from Skytop Lodge, this winery is easy for our guests to reach.

The wine varieties at this winery are crafted from Pennsylvania grapes, and aged in stainless steel barrels, giving every variety a crisp, clean flavor. In addition to wine tastings and bottles of wine, this winery also has a variety of unique products available, such as wine-making kits and wine-making supplies.

Brook Hollow Winery

It might surprise you to find a New Jersey winery on this list, but the Brook Hollow Winery is only located about 40 minutes away from the Skytop Lodge. It is still considered to be one of the best wineries in the Poconos, even though it isn’t in the state of Pennsylvania.

Brook Hollow Winery is another winery that has an extensive wine list that includes many different varieties, ensuring that wine drinkers of all preferences can find something that they love. Some of its most popular wines include its fruit-forward whites and its deep, flavorful reds, and the owner of the winery is particularly proud of the dry table wines that they serve. When you visit this winery, you can sample its wines all while enjoying the farm-like atmosphere of the property and its views of the Delaware Water Gap.

After a day spent sipping wine and soaking up the panoramic views of the Poconos, you will be glad to get back to Skytop Lodge where you can rest and relax for the evening. You may want to consider dinner at The Taproom, where you can enjoy a casual meal paired with excellent wines, or you might want to indulge in a waterfront fine dining experience at Lakeview. At Skytop Lodge, we have the facilities and amenities that you need to customize your stay in order to suit your personal preferences and style.
