Best Ice Skating in the Poconos

Dec 10, 2021

The Pocono Mountains are known for their summertime adventures and numerous outdoor activities. During the colder months, there are plenty of opportunities to explore a vastly different side of the region. Poconos resorts often create outstanding experiences for the whole family, attracting a wide range of adventure seekers looking to get away during the winter months.

Skytop Lodge offers some of the best adventures and activities in the region, and that includes ice skating! If you are planning a trip to the Poconos in the coming months, we welcome you to check out all that there is to do at Skytop Lodge.

Ice Skating and Outdoor Fun for Days

As one of the premier Poconos resorts, Skytop Lodge is the perfect place to stay and play this winter. Here is a look at some of the outdoor fun that’s happening this year.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is a winter activity that many people enjoy doing time and time again. At Skytop Lodge, we encourage you to bring along your skates (or rent ours) to have some fun. The Pavilion is transformed into an ice rink each year as soon as temperatures are cold enough to do so. There are sessions available each day throughout the season. Here are a few things to keep in mind about the rink:

  • No hockey games or equipment are allowed on the ice
  • Hours will vary depending on conditions and access
  • The rink is open to the public
  • For those staying with us at Skytop Lodge, the rink is complimentary to use. For those not staying with us, there is a $10 rink fee
  • Bring along your skates or rent a pair for $10 for resort guests. If not staying with us, you can purchase a skate rental and rink fee package for $20

We encourage you to contact us in advance of your visit. Reservations are required.

Ice Skating on the Lake

If conditions permit, we open up the lake for ice skating. This is specifically dependent on the conditions of the weather and the lake. We recommend giving us a call ahead of time to see if we have the lake open on the day you’re planning to visit us.

If you decide you want to go ice skating while you’re visiting Skytop Lodge, you can find what you need at the Outfitters building. We do ask that visitors and guests staying with us make reservations to ice skate on the lake. Gear rentals are available on-site so don’t worry if you forgot your skates at home. We encourage you to make this an annual trip.

Hiking

Depending on conditions and the amount of snowfall present, you may still be able to have some fun hiking the trails around Skytop Lodge. There are numerous trails, short and long, that allow you to explore all that the area has to offer and capture some of the best views of the mountains and lakes as you do. Bundle up and be sure the trails are open before you head off.

Snow Tubing

Snow tubing can be one of the best ways to bring a smile to someone’s face. Skytop Lodge offers snow tubing as a part of our Adventure Center.

When available, this is a wintertime favorite activity. You can spend hours on the snow tubing hill with the whole family. You do not need to bring anything with you aside from warm clothing. Here are a few things to keep in mind about snow tubing:

  • We require reservations for all guests, including day visitors and resort patrons
  • The snow tubing hill is available to those over the age of 4
  • Hours of operation change daily due to conditions. Reach out to us for more information on the availability
  • For resort guests, the cost is $10 per person, it is $15 per person for outside guests
  • Each session is about an hour long

Snow tubing can be a lot of fun when practiced safely. We recommend snow tubing to our guests who are in good physical condition.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Skytop Lodge sits on West Mountain, which creates some of the best skiing opportunities for beginners in the Poconos. Skiing, like all winter activities at the Skytop Lodge, is dependent on winter conditions. We have and maintain a natural environment, which means you may find some limitations during your stay.

Our slopes are available for both skiing and snowboarding. You can get all of the rental equipment you need for skiing and snowboarding right here on our property. There are also lessons available for those who want to learn how to take to the slopes for a good time. Lessons are available to people of most ages and skill levels.

The Ski Hill is on the opposite side of Skytop Lake from the resort itself. It’s just a short ride by car or shuttle from the lodge. Or, you can take the short 15-minute walk along the Lake Trail to get there. On a snow-covered day, this can be a beautiful way to see the area’s best views.

There are a few rules and conditions to know about skiing and snowboarding with us. Be sure to check with our team and read this info to know what to expect especially if you need equipment rentals or you wish to take some of the lessons we offer. Our experienced instructors can put together events for the whole group.

Play a Few Games

There is so much more to do at Skytop Lodge that is well worth exploring. Here are some of the other activities that may be available, depending on conditions to enjoy:

  • Paddle tennis
  • Snowshoeing
  • Indoor pool
  • Wobble trap
  • Axe throwing
  • Rifle shooting
