Skytop Lodge is one of the historic Poconos luxury hotels that can provide you with a memorable vacation experience. Part of that experience includes an appreciation of the area’s storied past. The story of Skytop Lodge is one of many tales that the Poconos Mountains have to tell. Enhance your Poconos vacation with a trip to one of the many museums located less than an hour away from Skytop Lodge.

Dorflinger Glass Museum

In the 19th Century, Dorflinger Glass Works began creating stunning cut lead crystal that came to be known as America’s finest glass. The exquisitely crafted crystal even found its way to the table settings of the White House for several different administrations.

The Dorflinger Glass Museum was originally home to the Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary. In 1981, the sanctuary was gifted its first Dorflinger glass acquisition, a Marlboro pattern decanter. The decanter was a given in memory of Fred Houth, a Dorflinger glass factory worker, by his daughter, Agnes Houth Baisden. Over the next 5 years, the sanctuary acquired several pieces of Ddorflinger glass, which they stored in a bank vault. Thanks to the generosity of the local community, over $150,000 was raised and used to build the Ddorflinger Glass Museum. The museum opened to the public for the first time on May 20, 1989. The museum’s collection, which now exceeds 1,000 pieces, is the largest Dorflinger glass display in the United States.

Sculpted Ice Works Factory Tour and Natural Ice Harvest Museum

The harvesting and selling of natural ice from lakes was a prosperous industry before the advent of refrigeration. The Natural Ice Harvest Museum tells the story of an entire field of work that has nearly vanished. We say nearly because the Sculpted Ice Works Factory is a functioning ice manufacturing facility. During the educational, all-ages tour, you will see every step of the ice production and sculpting process. See how crystal clear blocks of ice are created and watch them transform into masterful works art by skilled sculptors wielding chainsaws. The museum also hosts a select number of special events, including an annual Ice & Wine Festival each Spring. Check out their event page for detailed special event information.
