Skytop Lodge wants all our guests to step out of their comfort zone a little and enjoy the natural splendor and rugged beauty of the wilderness. We’ll look at all there is to do here, so you have a heads up while you plan your schedule in the Poconos.

ATV Tours

An ATV is more than just a way to get around. All the bumps as you zip along or descend a hill at high(er) speeds can make for an unforgettable experience. This region offers so many ways to get a little dirty and have a lot of fun. From slick mud to thick leaves, the Poconos feature a diverse landscape that can rapidly change from day to day.

Practically every day of the season can offer something a little different from the day before. Those who love to off-road really can’t miss this option while they’re in the Poconos. And if you’d prefer to take it easy, ATV tours in the Poconos can be arranged if you’re looking for a more serene ride. If you’re looking for businesses that offer these tours, consider Alvin’s Outdoor Playground, Poconos Outdoor Adventure Tours, or Pocono ATV Tours.

Horseback Riding

Horseback rides are a popular way to undertake the trails of this area, and a throwback to how everyone used to get around back before cars were even options. There’s a natural communication between a horse and the rider, made possible by not only the reins but also the demeanor of the person and the response from the horse.

Whether you grew up riding horses or you’re brand-new to the activity, there’s something for everyone when they come to the Poconos. These animals know the trails even when you don’t, and the camaraderie is readily apparent as they speed up, slow down, and navigate through each leg of the path. Mountain Creek, Deer Path, and Sugar Mountain Stables can all get you up and running.

Whitewater Rafting

The Poconos offers a variety of rafting excursions along the Lehigh River, with guides that are happy to welcome all skill levels to the rapids. Whitewater Rafting Adventures and Pocono Whitewater are just two operations that can take you through some of the most scenic places in the Poconos at thrilling speeds.

Introducing people to this thrilling sport is more than just an eye-opener. It’s a way to see the ridges of the Appalachian and Poconos Mountains from a river that winds its way through some of the best sections of scenery this stunning place has to offer.

Guided excursions in the Poconos are full of Class II and Class III level rapids. For reference, class levels go up to VI (though these are usually reserved for Olympic-level paddlers).

What Are the Rapid Classes?

It’s easy to think that if there are six classes of rapids, then a Class III rapid would require moderate paddling ability. This is a common fallacy that prevents people from experiencing this thrilling activity. The truth is that you’re more than welcome to try a Class I, Class II, or Class III rapid even if you have rudimentary skills.

Expert guides will use scheduled dam releases to monitor the water levels and give you the most exciting adventure without compromising your safety. This is truly an activity that you won’t want to miss. Several parts of the Lehigh are known as Pennsylvania Scenic Rivers, named for the inspirational views at every turn. Your guide can take you into uncharted territory and show off the mountains in all their glory.

Treetop Adventure Course

Just over 1,500 feet, this ropes course is a way to get the blood pumping and the whole family (ages 10 and up) working together. While impossible to fall, there are still plenty of obstacles to work through. From the logs to the bridges to the ladders, every step is a new way to experience being off the ground taking adventure to new heights.

Feel free to get lost in the foliage for a while as you work your way through this unique journey. Go at your own pace on some of the more difficult parts of the course, but be ready to speed everything up on five zip lines throughout the course. (Please note that to complete the course, everyone must be able to reach up to 5’11” with their arms.)

Rock Climbing

The 33-foot climbing at Skytop was created to be as close to the real thing as possible. There are six different sides to this wall, giving every skill level the chance to show off their abilities, start from scratch, and everything in between.

Skytop has 60-minute climbing sessions and an expert staff who will safely belay every climber. We only require climbers to be large enough to fit a harness and wear closed-toed shoes. Those on the most expert levels of the wall will find that they’re every bit as challenged as those on the mountains that lie just beyond.

Ties that Bind

Thrills in the Poconos can be had no matter what you do when you’re here. Whether you experience the mountains from a raft or on a hike, you really can’t go wrong. Just remember the real value of experiencing the small and big moments that come standard at these breathtaking mountains. The point of coming to a place like Skytop Lodge is to take yourself out of everyday surroundings and give yourself a very different set of parameters.

You can’t be stuck on your phone when you’re swiftly moving your paddle from left to right for the next rapid, nor can you be worried about work when you’re watching your kid learn how to ‘talk’ to a horse. Being on vacation and giving yourself a mental break is more than a luxury, it’s a requirement to reset and remind you of everything that lies outside your front door.
