Things to Do in the Poconos This February

The Poconos is a place for year-round adventure. Whether it’s the height of summer or the peak of winter, there’s always an intriguing activity right around the corner. From ice skating and romantic horse-drawn carriage rides to beer and bluegrass, winter 2018 offers dozens of themed events for your vacation pleasure. If you’re looking for things to do in the Poconos this February, here are a few of our top picks.

Winter Beer Festival

Head to Skytop Lodge Outfitters Shop for an afternoon of craft beer tastings, delectable eats and winter activities for the whole family. Guests can enjoy sips from notable breweries such as Rusty Nail, Nimble Hill, and Victory while savoring salt & pepper chicken wings, smoked beef brisket or bratwurst and pretzels with beer mustard. Tickets include a keepsake tasting glass, beer and food, plus live music and ice skating. Resort guests can also take advantage of the numerous winter activities offered on Skytop’s 5,500-acre property, from archery and snow tubing to a treetop adventure course with zip lines and balance bridges.

Sherman Winter Jam

Built in the 1920s, the historic Sherman Theater has become the go-to place for major concerts and entertainment events in the Poconos. Their lineup for February includes Baltimore-based funk band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, rapper Fetty Wap and the Sherman Winter Jam. The latter is a full night of funk, bluegrass and folk music from local acts including Launch Pad and Jordan Grace.  The event benefits homeless veterans, with Paul’s House onsite collecting coats and blankets for donation. Also look for the premiere of the music video for the headlining act’s tune “Let’s Fight for Them.” The venue holds up to 1,200 seated guests, so there should be plenty of tickets left at the door.

A Skytop Valentine’s

Couples can always snuggle by a roaring fire at Skytop Lodge, but this Valentine’s Day the resort is raising the romance level with a weekend of themed activities for couples. Bond over wine and art at a Sip & Paint class, get a couples’ massage at the on-site spa, or learn how to prepare delectable cocktails for one another. The weekend also features live music and romantic horse-drawn carriage rides that come with hot chocolate, chocolate-covered strawberries and a red rose for your sweetheart. Stay through President’s Day Week and participate in more holiday festivities, from snowman-building contests to skiing and mixology classes.

Winterfest Weekend

President’s Day weekend, the quaint town of Jim Thorpe transforms into scene straight out of a Thomas Kinkade painting for its annual WinterFest. The colorful downtown buildings are dusted with snow and children are crafting snowmen in a winter wonderland. Catch a 70-minute narrated train ride on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, take a romantic horse & carriage ride with your sweetie and watch chainsaw masters in action at Josiah White Park. Carvers will create magical sculptures out of wood and ice for the weekend-long event. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, guests can purchase a $15 mug for the “Mug Walk” and take it to participating shops and eateries for free treats.
