Honeymoon in the Poconos

May 16, 2016

The mesmerizing beauty of our waterfalls attracts visitors and locals to the Poconos Mountains year-round. Awe-inspiring and exhilarating waterfalls are especially popular destinations for newlyweds. If you are considering a honeymoon in the Poconos, there are few falls you definitely want to check out. We even have some impressive falls located on the grounds of Skytop’s 5,500-acre estate.

Waterfalls in the Poconos Mountains

Bushkill Falls

Nicknamed “The Niagara of Pennsylvania,” Bushkill Falls has been open to the public for over a century. The eight falls drop a total of 300 feet. The Main Falls alone feature an impressive 100-foot drop, viewable from a well-maintained walkway. Bushkill Falls is open daily from April through October, as permitted by weather.

Dingmans Falls

The Dingmans Falls Visitor Center is part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. With a drop of 130 feet, Dingmans Falls is the second highest waterfall in the state of Pennsylvania. Open from late May until early September, the boardwalk leading to Dingmans Falls gets you a close-up view of these beautifully cascading falls. Early in the season, you may find yourself drenched by spray due to heavy spring runoff.

Waterfalls on the Skytop Lodge Estate

Indian Ladder Falls

The Indian Ladder Falls are over 50 feet high, with a base over 75 feet wide. The Leavitt Branch formed Indian Ladder Falls over years of carving through shale and sandstone. This stunning 3 level waterfall is the highlight of our the Trout Stream Trail at Skytop. Our most popular trail, the Trout Stream Trail is both a hiking and cross-country skiing trail.  As a result, these beautiful falls are accessible during any season, but they are especially magnificent after a heavy rain.

Upper Falls

The Upper Falls are scenic waterfalls located not far upstream from the Indian Ladder Falls. Also formed by the Leavitt Branch, these waterfalls spill into a deep ravine filled with rhododendron. The Upper Falls Trail does not lead up to the falls themselves; instead, they are viewable from a steep cliff along the trail that overlooks the Upper falls.
